About Department

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is actively associated in grooming the engineering graduates in Mechanical Engineering by nurturing them with inputs from various basic and specialized subjects involving production, industrial, thermal and design engineering. A wide selection of projects, seminars and training facilities besides technical visits to industrial enterprises generates enormous potential and confidence among the students enabling them to independently handle the life size problems in their engineering careers. The department is conducting a 4-year full time undergraduate course-B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering with an annual intake of 60. The programme has been specially tailored to meet the growing global requirements and focuses on upcoming manufacturing systems with a rigorous emphasis on automation and quality control. Current subjects like Production Engineering/Operation Management, CAD/CAM, Ergonomics, Robotics, Mechatronics etc. are highlights of the curriculum, besides ongoing advancements and computational product design and development to accept the face global competition.

Experience/Achievements

Professor Chowdhary has extensive experience in Research and teaching for over 35 years. He did his Bachelor of Engineering with Hons. division from M.B.M. Engineering college in 1978, and immediately after that joined Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Bombay, where he completed one year PG Training, and was appointed as Scientific Officer C, and was promoted to Scientific Officer SD in 1983. During the stay in BARC Dr. Chowdhary designed and developed various systems related to nuclear reactor’s safety and control, and did the computer analysis in these areas on Main-frame systems.

After working in BARC, Bombay for about 6.5 years, Dr. Chowdhary joined M.B.M Engineering College, Jodhpur in Feb. 1985, as Associate Professor, where is he taught the courses of computer Science & Engineering. He was responsible for framing the syllabus for the courses of MCA, B.E. Computer Science, and B.E. (IT), and had taught these courses right from their inception, for almost 29 years.

On creation of the dept. of computer Science & Engineering in MBM Engineering college, he along with all the CS courses moved to this new dept. in the year 1997, where he became head of the dept. in Feb. 2001, and remained at this position up to June 2006. He got 2nd term of the Head of the dept. in June 2009, and remained as Professor and Head till he continued in the M.B.M. Engineering College (Dec. 2013). While his stay in the Dept. of Computer Sc. & Engg. (at MBM), Prof. Chowdhary started the part - time Master of Engineering (CSE) program in 2005, and full time M.E. in (CSE) in 2010.

While as Head of the Dept. of CSE at MBM Engg. College, Prof. Chowdhary remained the Director of University’s Computer Centre, almost during the entire period from Jan. 2001 to Dec. 3013, where he created the Networking facility connecting all the five faculties of the JNV University, as well as for Engineering Hostels.

Professor Chowdhary had also taught at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Jodhpur from Oct. 2010 till April 2014 to B.Tech. (Computer Sc.), in addition to the regular teaching at MBM Engineering College.

While in the Dept. of Computer Sc. & Engineering at MBM Engg. College, Prof. Chowdhary organized 6 National Level Conferences in the very emerging and latest areas of Computer Science, and has published total over 60 research papers in Journals and Conferences together. He has also been editor of various conference proceedings, and Journal of Institution of Engineers in Computer discipline, and has authored the book “Fundamentals of Discrete Mathematical Structures”, which is published by Prentice-Hall of India, both as paper and eBook edition. Due to its popularity, it is also available as Amazon,s Kindle edition, as well as Google eBook, and being followed as standard textbook in many University’s courses, and available at all the online stores.

Mechanical is an engineering discipline that involves the application of principles of physics for analysis, design, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems.

It requires a solid understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics,thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and energy. Mechanical engineers use the core principles as well as other knowledge in the field to design and analyze motor vehicles, aircraft, heating and cooling systems, watercraft, manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, robotics, medical devices and more.

The sub disciplines of mechanical engg. are:

  • Mechanics, having composed of statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, fluid mechanics and continuum mechanics.
  • Kinematics, which is a study of the motion of bodies (objects) and systems (groups of objects), while ignoring the forces that cause the motion.
  • Mechatronics, is an interdisciplinary branch of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and software engineering that is concerned with integrating electrical and mechanical engineering to create hybrid systems.
  • Robotics, is the application of mechatronics to create robots, which are often used in industry to perform tasks that are dangerous, unpleasant, or repetitive.
  • Structural analysis, is the branch of mechanical engineering (and also civil engineering) devoted to examining why and how objects fail. Structural failures occur in two general modes: static failure, and fatigue failure.
  • Thermodynamics, is an applied science used in several branches of engineering, including mechanical and chemical engineering. At its simplest, thermodynamics is the study of energy, its use and transformation through system.
  • Drafting or technical drawing, is the means by which mechanical engineers create instructions for manufacturing parts.
