Why are credit-based courses better than traditional-based courses

The educational system has changed quite a lot since the 80’s, which was when the current education system was introduced in India. In the last 30 years, since the 80’s, there have been great innovations in science and technology, which has changed the way information is available and consumed. To put it in perspective, previously, where you needed to memorize any historical fact or other things like the first or latest general knowledge of any subject, they are all available today at your fingertips through the internet by a simple search function.

This has changed the requirement of people to memorize tons of information and has put into question the existing educational infrastructure in India. To counter these problems, the New Education Policy 2020 in India plans to introduce credit-based courses instead of focusing on traditional courses, which were previously popular. Credit-based courses allow students to learn according to their own interests, passions, and aptitude allowing every student to carve their own path and have an opportunity of creating their future how they see fit. There are many other benefits of credit-based courses of traditional courses, which are discussed below.

Why credit-based courses are better than traditional courses

  • Scheduling

Credit-based courses are student-centric rather than being teacher-centric. This means these courses focus a lot on the availability and the willingness of the student in how and when they want to learn and complete their education rather than education being provided in a fixed environment at fixed timings. The flexibility allows students to educate themselves even while working. This allows for an overall better experience and allows students to be more attentive during their course.

  • Discipline

Since credit-based courses are student-centric, they require a lot of discipline and dedication from the student’s end to ensure they are able to complete the course with distinction. So, by taking and completing these courses well, students learn important life and personality skills on how to manage and plan according to their time, how to work under pressure, how to be efficient, diligent, and productive. These virtues are sure to help students hone a better work ethic and become more job-ready after their course completion. Allowing them to be eligible for better job offers at more respectable organisations.

  • Remote

Credit-based courses often allow for remote education that allows you to complete your education from any location you please. This allows students to focus on their other goals while maintaining their education which would not be possible if they were to study in traditional institute-based educational courses.

  • Upskilling opportunity

You can always pick up another course or another subject while you are working to excel your career even further. This allows you to up-skill and take your career to the next level. Given that credit-based courses allow students to take up inter-disciplinary as well as intra-disciplinary subjects, it allows students to expand their working scope as well as branch out into a completely new field without any problems. These features are sure to help students have more control over their careers and sure to encourage young people to take the route of entrepreneurship.

Final Thoughts

Credit-based education is the future, and as the NEP is being rolled out slowly in higher education courses, soon credit-based courses will replace the traditional courses as we know them today. So, in order to stay on top and ahead in your career and education, you should admit yourself to top institutes that focus on practical focus learning as it will be easiest for them to shift towards credit-based courses.
