ABOUT DEPARTMENT


Electrical & Electronics Department has the unique advantage of being the combination of both Electrical Engineering and Electronics Engineering and thus providing the students of this branch double benefit to study broader subjects which provide them double advantage for placements in companies of repute related to both the fields. Electrical Engineering & Electronics Engineering is most sought-after, even by the toppers and higher rank holders at the time of admissions in IITs and NITs. With rapid Industrial growth in the Country and particularly in power Sector, Heavy Electrical Industries and Electronics Industries more and more private sector companies are entering this segment resulting in opening of enormous job opportunities for graduate Electrical & Electronics Engineers.

With the objectives of transforming our students into efficient and capable technical professionals, having sound knowledge with analytical ability, creativity and professional competence, we impart necessary training to our graduates and make them competent enough to take on the professional responsibility in the world around them and grow and excel in what ever field they choose.

Some of the major research activities are: Power system analysis and planning, power system control and operation, insulation, breakdown in dielectrics, H.V. measurement techniques, gaseous discharges, design of electrical machines, control of electrical machines, electrical drives, power converters, renewable energy sources, process control and instrumentation, intelligent control, adaptive control, vision, kinematics and trajectory planning of robots, artificial intelligence, pattern recognition, VLSI design, solid-state electronics, optoelectronics, MEMS, signal processing, data transmission, synchronization and equalization, coding techniques, speech processing, switching circuits, microcomputers (software and hardware), computer aided instruction, scattering and diffraction problems, antennas and radar, active and passive microwave devices and systems, biomedical instrumentation, medical imaging, acoustic imaging, pulse shaping filters, broad band matching.

    Experience/Achievements

    Dr. Mehta has over 17+ years of experience in academics, research and industry. He is associated with JIET since 2004. He did his thesis on “Digital Image Processing using Hybrid Computing Techniques”. His experience in engineering education includes Sobhasaria Engineering College (Sikar), JECRC (Jodhpur), MBM Engg. College (Jodhpur) and JIET Group of Institutions (Jodhpur) while his experience in industry includes Gujarat Heavy Chemicals Limited (Veraval, Gujarat) and Reliance Petroleum Limited (Jamnagar).He is a Life Member of Indian Society of Technical Education (ISTE).He has presented 10 papers in national and international conferences and published 2 papers in International Journals. He has been the convener of two national conferences, ESD-2010 and NCATAS-2014. He has also attended various workshops/seminars/faculty development programs. The Project proposal entitled “Modernization and Removal of Obsolescence in High Voltage Lab. (MODROBS)” submitted by him (Head, Dept. of Electrical Engineering, JIET) in 2010 under scheme for promotion of Technical Education in low enrollment states and polytechnic institutions was granted an amount of fifteen lakh rupees by AICTE in 2011. His areas of interest include Electrical Machines, Power Electronics, Electromagnetic Field Theory, Electrical and Electronics Engineering Materials, Soft computing and Image Processing.

He has 03 papers in international conferences. He has attended a number of STTP(Short Term Training Program) and Summer School related to the field of Neural Networks and Digital Signal Processing. He has been an ex-member of IEEE-GRSS society. He has research interest in emerging field of microwave semiconductor devices and, electronics for signal processing and cryptography in wireless communications and networks. He is also a Life Member of Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) since January 2011.

He is also a Life Member of Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) since January 2013.     Electrical & Electronics Engineering: Branch Benefits

    Electrical & Electronics Engineering are instrumental in revolutionizing the lives of modern man & are required in almost all industries as no industry works without power.

    They are required by the industries in large numbers such as manufacturing, household and office appliances like refrigerators, television, computer, microwaves ovens, fans, motors, consumer durables, etc.

    In our age of satellite transmitted television and transcontinental computer networks, these engineers are high in demand.

    Electrical & Electronics engineers also find employment in nuclear power plants, hydroelectric power plants as well as thermal power plants or wherever electricity is generated, transmitted, distributed or used e.g. cement, steel, chemical industries etc.

    Freshers can get a starting salary of minimum Rs. 2.2 lakh p.a. to Rs. 4.5 l akt p.a. excluding other allowances.

    With more experience or as an established independent consultant one could earn more. Senior engineers can earn anywhere in between Rs. 6 l lakh p.a. and Rs. 12 l lakh p.a.

    Those at senior management levels can earn well above Rs. 12 l.p.a and in MNC's, these earnings could be more than twice as mentioned above.

    • Electrical and electronics engineer can start their career in a company with a job responsibility including drawings and specification, design, development, and implementation of products or systems, as well as research to create prototypes of new products and usages.
    • With the huge investments flowing into the power generation and distribution and the generation capacity, scheduled to quadruple over the next decade; huge job opportunities are in the pipeline in power generation, distribution, transmission fields as well as related equipment manufacture.
    • The other fields of consumer durables, appliances, motors, generator, transformers, controls & switchgear, etc. is also witnessing good growth and with the growth of industrial sector, electric traction, metro railways, power generation & distribution plants & grids, the electrical & electronics engineering students are in huge demand.
