ABOUT DEPARTMENT


Per capita Electrical Energy Consumption is an index of the standard of living of a country and its industrial and economic potential. Needless to say, that our country is very badly lagging behind in this area. The realization has now dawned that if India were to achieve a sustained annual economic growth of around 10%, it would have to improve its infrastructure including power generation by a factor of at least two. The government has all the intention of doing it and power generation is now under sharp focus. Simultaneously, the field of electronics is advancing in a big way and finds its application in almost every field, be it communications, power generation, automation, defense, consumer, electronics, automobile engineering, control engineering or aerospace applications.

There is a huge deficit in the demand and supply of well-qualified Electrical Engineers in the country. With this view the Electrical Department was started. The department has following fully equipped laboratories of Electrical Engineering

    Dr. Mathur has extensive teaching experience 50+ years in various engineering colleges.

    He has published 61 research papers in various national and international journals of repute and presented 91 papers in national and international conferences. Dr. Mathur has Sir Vitthal N. Chandavarkar Memorial Gold Medal on Ph.D. thesis adjudged to be the best for application to industries in the year 1979 at I.I.Sc. Bangalore. Dr. Mathur completed three AICTE sponsored projects. Dr. Mathur awarded by Institution of Engineers (India) for five different technical papers. He is also awarded by Central Board of Irrigation and Power Award for the best technical paper. Dr. Mathur got Tata Fellowship for pursuing research at II.Sc. Bangalore.

    Experience/Achievements

    Dr. Mehta has over 17+ years of experience in academics, research and industry. He is associated with JIET since 2004. He did his thesis on “Digital Image Processing using Hybrid Computing Techniques”. His experience in engineering education includes Sobhasaria Engineering College (Sikar), JECRC (Jodhpur), MBM Engg. College (Jodhpur) and JIET Group of Institutions (Jodhpur) while his experience in industry includes Gujarat Heavy Chemicals Limited (Veraval, Gujarat) and Reliance Petroleum Limited (Jamnagar).He is a Life Member of Indian Society of Technical Education (ISTE).He has presented 10 papers in national and international conferences and published 2 papers in International Journals. He has been the convener of two national conferences, ESD-2010 and NCATAS-2014. He has also attended various workshops/seminars/faculty development programs. The Project proposal entitled “Modernization and Removal of Obsolescence in High Voltage Lab. (MODROBS)” submitted by him (Head, Dept. of Electrical Engineering, JIET) in 2010 under scheme for promotion of Technical Education in low enrollment states and polytechnic institutions was granted an amount of fifteen lakh rupees by AICTE in 2011. His areas of interest include Electrical Machines, Power Electronics, Electromagnetic Field Theory, Electrical and Electronics Engineering Materials, Soft computing and Image Processing.

    She has guided 8 M. Tech. Dissertations successfully in Rajasthan Technical University and She has also guided 2 DST funded students projects. She has also completed one project of MODROBS funded by AICTE for ‘Modernization of High Voltage Lab’.

    Electrical Engineering: Branch Benefits

    Electrical engineers are instrumental in revolutionizing the lives of modern man & are required in almost all industries as no industry works without power.

    They are required by the industries in large numbers such as manufacturing, household and office appliances like refrigerators, television, computer, microwaves ovens, fans, motors, consumer durables, etc.

    In our age of satellite transmitted television and transcontinental computer networks, these engineers are high in demand.

    Electrical engineers also find employment in nuclear power plants, hydroelectric power plants as well as thermal power plants or wherever electricity is generated, transmitted, distributed or used e.g. cement, steel, chemical industries etc.

    Freshers can get a starting salary of minimum Rs. 2.2 lakh p.a. to Rs. 4.5 l akt p.a. excluding other allowances.

    With more experience or as an established independent consultant one could earn more. Senior engineers can earn anywhere in between Rs. 6 l lakh p.a. and Rs. 12 l lakh p.a.

    Those at senior management levels can earn well above Rs. 12 l.p.a and in MNC's, these earnings could be more than twice as mentioned above.

    Electrical Engineering: Career Path

    Typical career path scenarios for Electrical & Electronics Engineering are :

    • Electrical and electronics engineer can start their career in a company with a job responsibility including drawings and specification, design, development, and implementation of products or systems, as well as research to create prototypes of new products and usages.
    • With the huge investments flowing into the power generation and distribution and the generation capacity, scheduled to quadruple over the next decade; huge job opportunities are in the pipeline in power generation, distribution, transmission fields as well as related equipment manufacture.
    • The other fields of consumer durables, appliances, motors, generator, transformers, controls & switchgear, etc. is also witnessing good growth and with the growth of industrial sector, electric traction, metro railways, power generation & distribution plants & grids, the electrical & electronics engineering students are in huge deman.
